Our director, Paul McGivern KC is the co-author of two chapters in Introducing Evidence at Trial: A British Columbia Handbook published by The Continuing Legal Education Society of British Columbia (CLEBC), Chapter 2 – Admissions Dispensing with Proof and Chapter 24 – Subpoenas, which were again updated for the 5th Edition of the Handbook. This Handbook is an essential tool for trial lawyers, offering access to clear statements of the rules of evidence, practice pointers and strategies for leading different types of evidence, and checklists and scripts to help you in the courtroom. The publication aims to assist civil and criminal lawyers to understand the evidentiary proof you need in your case and spot weaknesses in the other party’s case, better understand the rules of evidence and use them effectively in your case, more effectively argue for the admission or exclusion of evidence, and confidently lead and object to evidence in a trial.
Paul McGivern KC is a senior litigator with decades of experience, and has litigated numerous high-profile precedent setting cases. In his career, he has appeared as a lead counsel before every court level in British Columbia and also in the Supreme Court of Canada. Mr. McGivern also served as Adjunct Professor at the University of British Columbia’s Peter A. Allard School of Law, where he taught civil procedure for 18 years. Pacific Medical Law is delighted to share our expertise and support the education of lawyers in British Columbia through this CLEBC publication.
